How To Get Ready For Your Skip
Have you selected your skip size and feel ready to get on with the job at hand? To help you prepare for the delivery of your skip, take a quick look through our guide on how to get ready for your skip. Taking note of these things will help ensure your skip hire experience goes smoothly so that you can get to work.
Access for skip vehicles
When you’re ordering your skip, it’s important to bear in mind the size of the vehicle delivering the skip. Is your property accessed by a normal road? Will there be parked cars that may hinder manoeuvrability for our drivers?
If you know that we won’t be able to gain access to your property to deliver a skip, whether it’s because of gates, height restriction barriers or narrow roads, please let us know when ordering and we can advise you on the best course of action.

Skips placed on driveways
Having a skip on your driveway is great because it avoids potential issues with permits, but you should always speak with your neighbour if you have a shared driveway so they’re aware of this. Be sure that the skip size you order doesn’t encroach on your neighbour’s property to avoid any issues.
One area of concern for skips on driveways is damage to the surfacing due to the heavy nature of the skips involved. We take all the necessary steps to avoid this if you speak to our team about your driveway ahead of time, but if you know your driveway can’t take the weight of a skip, it’s better to have it placed elsewhere on your property or in the road.
Potential hazards
It’s always worth checking whether there are any hazards on your road or outside your property that our team should know about, including:
- Overhead phone lines
- Large trees
- Manholes and sewers
- Bollards
Unsuitable waste types
Skip hire is great for disposing of everyday waste generated from home DIY projects and commercial works, but some waste types cannot be accepted in a skip. This includes asbestos, gas cylinders, tyres, tree roots, batteries, mattresses, fridges, freezers, paints, liquids and chemicals. You can find out more about unsuitable waste types on our dedicated page.
